60 YEARS AGO TODAY:

10/9/64 – The Beach Boys record “Dance, Dance, Dance” (with Glen Campbell on lead guitar.)  Glen kept flubbing the same note … and Brian Wilson ultimately decided to just leave it in, thus altering the guitar-riff driven intro.

Also on 10/9 – John Lennon celebrates his 24th birthday

Also on 10/9 – Filming begins on the new Bobby Darin movie “That Funny Feeling”

October 8th, 1964

60 YEARS AGO TODAY:

10/8/64 – The Beatles record the B-Side of their next single, “She’s A Woman.”

The whole session takes just five hours from start to finish and was captured in just seven takes (plus overdubs.)

(I don't know about you ... but this just doesn't sound right without the echo added by Capitol for the US release ...

That's the way we heard it then ... so it's the way we feature it now!)

Just before the session, Drummer Ringo Starr gets his driver’s license.

October 7th, 1964

60 YEARS AGO TODAY:

10/7/64 - The Beatles appear on a special “British Edition” episode of "Shindig" (ABC-TV in the US) performing three tracks:  “Kansas City,” I’m A Loser” and “Boys.”

The appearance was taped October 3rd at Granville Studio in London in front of an audience that included Beatles Fan Club Members.

Naturally, The Beatles were top of the bill for this appearance ... other acts  included Sandie Shaw, PJ Proby, The Karl Denver Trio, Tommy Quickly, Sounds Incorporated, and Lyn Cornell.

This British-themed edition of Shindig! was first broadcast in the US by ABC on October 7th, 1964, but incredibly was never shown in Britain.

Also on 10/7, the film “See How They Run” is broadcast on NBC television.  It is the first “Made For TV Movie” ever made.
